George Browell
After early retirement from a career in the Printing Industry, George raised his lifelong activity of painting to a higher level by doing a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Sunderland University. George writes ‘Then, after a period of developing my painting style and doing some art teaching at evening classes for adults, I went on to do an MA Fine Art which I completed in 2005.
The main benefit to my painting style that I derived from these Degree courses, was in learning how to tap into my inner feelings and subconscious mind - the knowledge that for an artist there are no rules or boundaries and that anything is possible, and that by continuously painting with a free but enquiring and open mind, new discoveries will arise.”
George aims to paint in a free and energetic way and uses a range of mark making techniques including stipples that appeal to him. His favourite subject matter is the landscape of Northumberland and the North Country
